House Rules
Dougs Way is friendly, laid back, relaxing and original. Outlined below are house rules but also just some things that could be useful and make your stay more pleasant. PASSTHROUGH 3rd BEDROOM The Office/3rd bedroom is a passthrough room, meaning guests need to pass through the room to get to the rest of the downstairs when inside. However, this room does have doors that close and is private. It also has French doors to the outside. In addition, there are other ways to get to the downstairs, as each room has access to the outside and there are steps to the upstairs just outside the breezeway. Once downstairs guests can access the bathroom, kitchenette, laundry, other bedroom, den and the outside without going through this room. This has never been an issue for guests but we do like to be transparent. If you have any questions please let us know. We are happy to help, as we want everyone to be comfortable. TRAVEL BASKET To help save a trip to the store, we have travel-friendly items like shampoo, earplugs, bar soap, razors and the like in a “travel basket” located under the island near the fireplace. Feel free to take items if you need them. If you have any unopened items that you don’t want, feel free to add them to the mix. 3RD PARTY RENTALS - The person who made the reservation must be present for the duration of the stay. If that is a problem, please let us know and we will work with you to find a solution. REPORTING ISSUES AT CHECK-IN - We do a full turnover prior to your arrival. That said, it is not possible to inspect everything. Per Airbnb Terms of Service please let us know as soon as possible after arrival should anything not meet expectations or if something breaks. We will get right on whatever the trouble is so you can relax and have a great time! SEPTIC - Avoid setting off the septic alarm. Please make all guests aware that flushing “flushable wipes”, feminine hygiene products, Q-tips, baby wipes, diapers, and the like. For the same reason, please do not put fibrous things or coffee grounds down the garbage disposal. SHOES - Please remove shoes when inside. The floors can be slick. Gripper socks or house shoes are recommended. SMOKING & VAPING, CANDLES & INCENSE - No smoking or vaping inside the house. Due to insurance restriction no lighting of incense and candles. CARE OUTDOORS - Please be careful when hiking. Some areas are steep. DO NOT USE: Confetti, tape, popped balloons, water balloons, or glitter anywhere on or in the property. HOW WE ARE KID FRIENDLY: - We have BPA-Free plastic dinnerware, cutlery and sippy cups. - Though not installed, we also provide outlet covers for guests to place where needed. - -- We have a high chair, Pack and Play/playpen, and 3 gates that can be put where needed. - The door to the downstairs has an auto closure to help keep kids safe and our courtyard is gated. - There are lots of woods to explore and places to play in the yard. WHAT MIGHT NOT WORK FOR SOME KIDS: - The cabin has a sunken living room with 2 short steps and a double-sided fireplace that is almost impossible to put guards around. If you have children in your group please do not build fires in the fireplace. - We offer a Pack and Play so you can create a safe zone for small children using it as a playpen. - Our cabinets do not have child safety locks on them. Cleaning supplies and trash may be stored in these cabinets. - Though we work to minimize this, some cords and corners could be exposed. - We also have two large pieces of artwork made of steel. One is located in the dining room and the other is in the yoga room/bedroom downstairs. They are securely attached to the wall but could come off if hit with a lot of force. CHILD SAFETY - Please do not allow children to jump on the beds. - Please supervise your children in the woods and around the house. GRILL & FIREPLACE: - Wood and charcoal are not provided but are readily available at area markets and grocery stores. - Do not put anything in the fireplace other than twigs, seasoned wood, fire starter briquettes, and/or paper. No trash, please! - Please only lighter fluid to start the grill. No gasoline, alcohol or other combustibles. - Fire extinguishers and water hoses are available for you to use in emergencies. FIREPOT: - Do not build fires on windy days or when there is a “burn ban”. - Please build fires in designated areas only. Building a fire outside of the fire pot or moving the fire pot away from its designated area is dangerous and will incur a $100 maintenance and safety fee. - Do not burn anything other than wood, paper, and fire briquettes. - Make sure the fire is dead out before leaving unattended. - Do not dump coals and ash in the woods. Please use the ash bucket provided. PETS: - Pets are not allowed on the property at any time. Bringing a pet to the property will incur a $200 pet fee per animal for extra cleaning and could result in immediate eviction. TRIP INSURANCE - We recommend guests obtain cancelation/trip insurance. COMMERCIAL USE: This property is not to be used for commercial purposes without prior approval. Fees may apply. GATHERINGS & NOISE: Sounds travels in the mountains, so please keep things down 8pm to 8am. Thanks! FIREARMS Firearms, including BB Guns, are allowed with prior permission. However, they cannot be shot on the property. FIREWORKS Due to liability, fireworks are not allowed on the premises. GARBAGE & THE GARAGE - Guests may use the garage door openers located on the kitchen island to access the garage. Please remember to leave them when you checkout. The garbage cans are stored in the garage to keep animals out. For this reason please be sure to keep the doors to the garage closed. All trash and all recycling must be in the correct bags for pickup. Recycling is in clear/white. Trash cans in the garage must be lined with black bags. All trash and recycling must be bagged or it will not be picked up. Trash pickup is usually on Thursdays between 6 AM and 8 PM (bad weather and holidays being the exception). Please have all of your trash and recycling out by Thursday morning. We will send you a text reminder. Our company is full service and they have their own access, so cans do not need to be moved and the garage door can remain closed. WHAT IS THE ROAD LIKE? IS 4-WHEEL DRIVE NECESSARY? 4-Wheel/All Wheel drive is generally not necessary, but is highly recommended in winter. We visited the region for years in a Honda sedan without issue. Rear wheel drive vehicles with really low ground clearance (like some hatchbacks and mini-vans), as well as light vehicles (Prius and small 2-wheel drive trucks), are not ideal and take the most experience to drive in the mountains of NC. Please Do Not Use: Glitter, confetti, plastic beads, plastic rose petals, tape on the walls, nails, hair dye… things of this nature, as extra cleaning charges may apply Guests are required to complete the pre-arrival form and sign & agree to our rental conditions, which will be sent in an email shortly after booking. For stays longer than 2 weeks an additional cleaning fee may be required.
