Other Details to Note

Located off state maintained roads just 15 minutes from shopping & exploring in Spruce Pine, Burnsville, and Bakersville, and just 48 miles from Asheville, Conley House is a modern mountain gem with lots to do! _____ ABOUT THE CABIN + Conley House was originally 2 cabins with a courtyard in between. The owner, Bill Brown Sr., later turn the cabins into 2 suites with an open floor plan living space between for him and his family. Bill Brown was director of Penland School after Lucy Morgan, the founder, retired. Railings and many other details are original to the home. The kitchen was made by well known woodworker, Doug Sigler. The cabin is filled with natural light in every room with each door framing the view. The home was designed to be passive solar, so it is not uncommon to be able to leave the doors open on warmer days in February. The abundance of light makes the home a cheery place that is very relaxing. We have filled the house with commissioned and original artwork that we have collected over the years. We hope it inspires you! _____ VISITING IN THE OFF-SEASON + Views in winter are amazing! Hiking the Roan or to waterfalls can be spectacular with almost no one else on the trail. However, in winter (usually mid-December through February or mid-March) some businesses keep different hours or even close, while others do creative things like popup restaurants and special winter openings. If you are concerned about what might be available please ask us. We'd be happy to assist you in deciding if visiting in the off-season would be a good fit. _____ CHILDREN: Children are welcome. The house is a home not a museum, so it can be a great place for families. We ask that parents be attentive, putting objects out of reach that may cause a problem or be damaged, putting delicate items are cords out of reach. A number of kid-friendly items such as a cutlery and plates, sippy cups, pack and play, highchair, etc. are available in the cabin. _____ Conley House is an exceptional experience. House Rules

THINGS TO KNOW - In a frame on the stove are tips and requests about how to care for the house and where you will find things. Please check it out. Thanks! DRIVEWAY The gravel drive can be steep for some vehicles that are especially low to the ground, such as sports cars like corvettes. The owners have a truck and a typical sedan and have no issues. 4-wheel drive is not necessary. PHONE SERVICE - Verizon is the primary mobile carrier for the area. Other mobile users are encouraged to check their carrier's coverage in the region. Feel free to use our wifi to boost your cell signal by enabling VOIP calling on your cell phone. TRAVEL BASKET - To help save a trip to the store, we offer a mix of travel friendly items like shampoo, ear plugs, bar soap, razors (etc...) in a basket in the master bedroom closet. Feel free to take items if you need them. If you have any unopened items you don't want, feel free to add them. CHECKOUT - Follow the Check-Out Check List before departure. It helps you remember your belongings and ensures the safety and security of the property. RENTERS - The person who makes the reservation must stay at the cabin. REPORTING ISSUES AT CHECK-IN - We do a full turnover prior to your arrival. That said, it is not possible to inspect everything. Per Airbnb Terms of Service please let us know within 24 hours of arrival or as soon as possible should anything not meet expectations or if any damage, malfunctions, or other things come up during you stay. We know no one wants to deal with such hassles, on their vacation especially. Please know we will get right on whatever the trouble is so you can relax and have a great time! SEPTIC ** EXTREMELY IMPORTANT ** - DO NOT PARK on the grassy area in front of the studio behind the rocks. - Please make all of your guests aware, children and teenagers included, to not flush "flushable wipes", feminine hygiene products, Q-tips, baby wipes... really anything besides effluence and toilet paper. The septic alarm could be set off, which is very embarrassing for everyone involved, and flushing unapproved things can also damage the plumbing. - Similarly, please do not put coffee grounds, non-food objects, or fibrous foods in the garbage disposal. LANDSCAPERS - According to season, staff may come onto the property to mow and tend to landscaping. Out of necessity this may occur while the property is occupied. GATHERINGS & NOISE - Noise travels in the mountains so please keep things quiet between 9 pm and 8 am PETS - No pets on the property at any time. BEARS, CHIGGERS & CRITTERS: There are bears in our neck of the woods so please do not put scraps of food in the woods and keep all trash contained and in the trash bins firmly closed. Also, the region has little pests that you cannot really see without a magnifying glass. They are called chiggers. Chigger bites are extremely itchy, so be sure to use bug spray if you are going to be spending time outside. Especially if you will be sitting in the grass for extended periods of time. Also, you could see anything in mountains from chipmunks, spiders, bees, and squirrels to bears, snakes, fox, deer, wild turkeys, rabbits and more. We keep binoculars in the cabin so you can have a great time spotting the different animals just remember to give them space. SMOKING & VAPING, INCENSE & CANDLES - No smoking or vaping in the house. Guests may smoke outside. Please pick up cigarette butts and dispose of them properly. No burning of incense or candles. Candles are allowed in instances of a power outage. Thank you. FIREPOT: Causing a wildfire is a real concern in the mountains these days. Please use care when using the fire pot. - Please build fires in designated areas only. Building a fire outside of the fire pot or moving the fire pot away from its designated area is dangerous and will incur a $100 maintenance and safety fee. - Do not burn anything other than paper and wood. - Make sure the fire is dead out before leaving unattended. - Do not dump coals and ash in the woods. Please use the ash bucket provided in the house. TRIP INSURANCE - We recommend guests obtain cancelation/trip insurance. COMMERCIAL USE Conley House is not to be used for commercial use without prior approval. Fees may apply. GAS LOG STOVE - Please do not run the gas log stove when you are not in the home. - Please use the guards in the closet if you have small children in your group. Please Do Not Use: Glitter, confetti, plastic beads, plastic rose petals, tape on the walls, nails, hair dye… things of this nature, as extra cleaning charges may apply. Guests are required to complete the pre-arrival form and sign & agree to our rental conditions, which will be sent in an email shortly after booking. For stays longer than 2 weeks an additional cleaning fee may be required.

We had the most incredible stay at this gorgeous, secluded cabin! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by how peaceful and private it felt — the perfect escape from the noise of everyday life. The setting is absolutely beautiful, making it easy to relax and fully unwind. Nothing beats the views all around the house. The cabin itself was spotless and incredibly well-maintained. Everything was clean, fresh, and thoughtfully organized. It was also fully stocked with everything we could possibly need — from kitchen essentials to cozy extras that made our stay even more comfortable. It truly felt like a home away from home. You can tell the hosts put a lot of care and attention into every detail. Beautiful and thoughtful pieces all around the cabin. We didn’t have to worry about a thing during our stay. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable getaway. We’ll definitely be back! 🌲

Had an absolutely wonderful stay at Lisa’s home. The space, view, and surroundings were even more beautiful than in the photos. The house is thoughtfully stocked with great cooking supplies, beautiful artwork, and puzzles/games/entertainment features. The views in the mornings were breathtaking, and really blew the mind of my NYC born and raised sister-in-law. What we did: We enjoyed exploring the Penland Art Gallery (really beautiful pieces), local pottery artists, and nearby mountain towns. The drive to Linville Falls was a breeze, and Fox and the Fig in Spruce Pine had delicious sandwiches. We had started the trip in Asheville, but it would be a fairly easy drive from the cabin as well. Can definitely see myself planning a return visit to Lisa’s home, and recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing getaway.

We absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful cabin! It’s perfectly tucked away; secluded enough to feel peaceful and private, yet close enough to everything we needed. The surroundings are stunning, and the cabin itself is spotless, thoughtfully designed, and incredibly comfortable. It truly felt like home from the moment we walked in. Our family had such a wonderful time relaxing, cooking, and enjoying the cozy atmosphere. We especially appreciated the great coffee setup, amazing beans and brewing options that made our mornings extra special (we love coffee!). Sipping hot coffee on the porch and looking at the amazing view was very special. Lisa was amazing. Her communication was quick, clear, and so friendly. She’s truly a wonderful host and made the entire experience seamless and welcoming. We can’t wait to come back!

The owners have a truck and a typical sedan and have no trouble getting up the driveway. Guests may park on the lower part of the driveway if they would prefer. Four-wheel drive is not required, but if you are renting a vehicle, this option might be a good choice for the mountains - especially in winter.
